Scars, once formed, are hard to get rid of and often last a life time. Scars come in all shapes and depths, so a variety of treatments are used, the most effective being laser peeling, Cool Touch Laser and Dot Peeling.

This highly effective treatment, also called Laser Skin Resurfacing, can produce remarkable improvements even with just one treatment and it uses ultrapulse carbon dioxide laser and Erbium YAG laser together for maximum effects.

1. How does laser peeling work?
Ultrapulse laser selectively cauterizes collagen cells of the scars without any thermal damage to surrounding skin. The laser stimulates the production of collagen in the pitted dermis and new skin quickly grows in its place. Erbium YAG laser removes raised scars to make the skin even.
Deeper pitted acne scars require laser peeling to remove the entire facial skin at a fixed depth. This stimulates the production of fresh young skin cells and wrinkles and brown spots noticeably decrease alongside the scar. Fine lines around the eye and lip areas are less pronounced. Most patients are very happy with the results because their skin becomes resilient, silkier and youthful.
2. How are laser peels performed?
Ultrapulse laser and Erbium YAG laser are combined as needed and the procedure can take anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours, depending on the surface area to be treated. If a laser peel is done under local anesthesia, anesthetic ointment or Lidocaine is used and postoperative care will take about a week. For larger areas, such as full-face resurfacing, venous or general anesthesia is used because of pain and the treated area has to be disinfected every day for a week, so consider this your ¡°down time¡± before you can be seen public. 1~3 months of post-peel skin resurfacing care is mandatory.
Erythema, which appears shortly after surgery, will take 3~6 months to fade, so you may want to conceal it with heavy makeup during that time. In some cases, there will be hyperpigmentation, but this will also be gone within months. You should wear sun block at all times and whitening ointment, skin resurfacing cream, or therapeutic dressing can be applied depending on the condition.
Cool touch laser resurfacing is a new method which stimulates the skin¡¯s collagen layer to regrow new skin in the pitted area of the scar without wounding or removing the skin. Since cool touch laser resurfacing has a limited effect compared to laser peeling, most people need this treatment repeated every month. Patients who cannot afford much ¡°down time¡± (a holiday) prefer this method as the quick procedure and recovery time do not interfere with their career or personal life.
Dot peeling injects chemicals called TCA into the pitted scar area topically and allows collagen to reform beneath the surface. Crust will accumulate in the week after the procedure and after the crust flakes off, slight erythema or hyperpigmentation may come and go and gradually fresh new skin will resurface. Although multiple sessions are required, dot peeling can be performed in conjunction with a cool touch laser resurfacing which will escalate effects. Some cases may require incisions on the dermis which will maximize results.
This method topically fills the deep pitted scars with special substances. The main component of restylane and perlain, hyaluronic acid, is an actual component of normal skin which fuses skin cells together and acts as a lubricant. Unlike existing injections, it has no side effects, is simple, and doesn¡¯t interfere with your everyday life. However, it should be noted, this is not a permanent scar removal procedure and the ingredients are safely absorbed into your body after about a year, not leaving any by-products behind.
